Sim #17 – Post Draft Blues

Game date: June 26th, 2023

The first half of the season is always filled with excitement – new players, players/teams that start hot, the build-up to the draft – and by the time we get to late June, you realize just how long the season is. There’s still a lot of baseball left to play!

Standings:

In 3 of the 4 divisions, the lead is essentially 10 games (but, again, there is a lot of baseball left to play), and in the other, Charleston holds a 5.5 game lead over Chicago. The wild cards, however, are totally up for grabs.

In the SL, Chicago is a pretty much a lock, but we have a tie for the 2nd wild card between Cleveland and Rochester, and no team is more than 4 out of a playoff spot.

In the PL, it’s Miami and San Diego, with Tupper Street just a game back.

Games:

6/21 – Miami beats New York 2-0 in 21 innings (not a typo). Each team needed 8 pitchers to get through the game.

6/22 – DC and Brooklyn only make it 14 innings before DC scores in the top of the inning to win 2-1

6/23 – Brooklyn fires back with a walk-off single against DC, and Rochester and New England get in an extra inning shootout (7 runs scored in extra innings) as New England wins 11-10

6/24 – Tupper Street’s Jose Segura throws a CG SHO in a win over San Diego

6/25 – Rafael Montes goes 5-6 with 2 HRs and 6 RBI (i.e. all of his teams runs) in a 10-6 loss to DC

Sim #13: The Draft Cometh

Game date: June 5th, 2023

If you read nothing else from this email, at least read this: the draft is next Friday night. Get your draft lists in now, and if you’re not sure how to do that, feel free to reach out and we can walk you through the process. I hope to have an “online” draft option available for the next draft, but I’ve been thoroughly distracted lately and haven’t had a chance to implement it.

Standings:

Kant: Brooklyn by 8 over Miami
Hobbes: Brattleboro up 7.5 on Pittsburgh and 8 on New England
Hegel: Charleston up 4 on Chicago
Calvin: DC up 6.5 on Cleveland

Wild cards are Miami and San Diego in the PL (with Tupper Street just .5 back) and Chicago and Cleveland in the SL (with Rochester 1.5 back).

Injuries:

We had a lot of moderate injuries this sim

Tupper Street’s Juan Pérez diagnosed with an elbow strain, will miss 6 weeks and CF Miguel Orozco diagnosed with a sprained ankle, will miss 6 weeks.

Petersburg Polekarts: 3B Gary James diagnosed with a sprained ankle, is day-to-day for 4 weeks.

Brooklyn’s Juan García diagnosed with a hamstring strain, will miss 2 weeks, and Natsu Tanaka will be pitching through a mild shoulder strain for 2 weeks

Charleston’s Dave Dillman diagnosed with a torn meniscus, will miss 4 months.

Pittsburgh’s Aaron Moore diagnosed with a bone spur in his elbow, will miss 2 months.

Miami’s José Rodríguez will be pitching through shoulder tendinitis for the next couple of weeks.

Scores:

5/31: Miami edges Tupper Street in 13 innings, 6-5. Miami finishes the game with 21 hits compared to 10 for Tupper Street
6/1: Charleston’s Hector Sanchez goes 2-2 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, and 3 BB in a 16-12 victory over Maui
6/2: Miami scores 6 in the top of the 11th to beat Tupper Street 10-5
6/3: Just when I thought 6 in the 11th was crazy: Charleston scores 12 (12!) in the top of the 14th to beat Rochester 14-4
6/4: Tupper Street only manages a single hit more than Brooklyn (12 to 11), but outscores them 11-3

Sim #9: One quarter down

Game date: May 16th, 2023

We’re about a quarter of the way through the season and about a month away (2 weeks realtime) from the draft. Make sure to get your draft lists in sooner rather than later. And don’t forget to check out the blog (https://oelootp.wordpress.com/draft-info/) for the draft order and traded draft picks, and let me know if anything seems off.

Standings:

Kant: Brooklyn up 6.5 on San Diego
Hobbes: Brattleboro up 11(!) on New England (with the other 2 right behind)
Hegel: Charleston up 9.5 on Chicago
Calvin: DC up 4.5 on Cleveland

Wild cards are San Diego, Miami, Chicago, and Cleveland. Nice to see some new blood in there.

Injuries:

North Jersey’s Bin-ying Li will miss 7-8 weeks with elbow inflammation
Cleveland’s Armando Castillo will miss 5 weeks with an intercostal strain
Rochester’s Carlos Tovar will miss 3-4 months with a torn calf muscle

That’s all for now – next sim is Friday by Nate.

Sim #6: Draft pool released

Game date: May 1st, 2023

The draft pool has been released, and it looks like the pool is a little deeper than it has been for a few years, so our efforts seem to be moving in the right direction. We should see a small jump each year for the next few, at which point I think we’ll be in great shape. Start working on those draft lists!

Standings:

Kant: Brooklyn at 15-9
Hobbes: Brattleboro at 18-8
Hegel: Charleston at 21-6
Calvin: DC at 19-7

Transactions:

San Diego was busy the last 5 days. They signed Jeff Irby to a very team friendly 10 year, $50MM deal, and well over 100 minor leaguers to fill out their system. Good work Troy!

Games:

4/26: Charleston squeaks out a 13 inning win over NJ
4/28: Maui scores 4 in the bottom of the 9th to beat NY 6-5
4/29: Jorge Rangel goes the distance, giving up 4 hits and striking out 13 en route to a win over Cleveland
4/30: Three games are decided in the last at-bat, including Chicago coming back from a 2 run deficit to get an 8-7 victory over NJ

OEL Sim #3: Rolling Along

Game date: April 16, 2023

Big news this sim – Danilo Henriquez has reached 3000 hits, becoming the first OEL player to reach that milestone. He also holds a number of other records – home runs (805), RBI (2639), and WAR (132.1) to name a few. Pretty sure he’ll be a first ballot hall of famer

Standings:

Hegel: Charleston (13-1)
Calvin: DC (12-2)
Kant: Brooklyn (7-6)
Hobbes: Brattleboro (10-3)

Injuries:

Lots of small injuries this sim, but only 1 substantial one – New England’s Travis Taylor is out 7-8 months with a torn flexor tendon

Games:

4/11 – Three games were won in walk-off fashion, including Chicago coming back from 10-7 in the 9th to win 11-10 on a bases loaded walk
4/12 – Charleston’s Jorge Rangel throws 8 shutout innings and strikes out 12 on his way to a win over Cleveland
4/13 – Another day with 3 walk-off wins. Petersburg storms back from a 6-1 deficit in the 7th to win on a walk-off triple in the 9th
4/14 – Maui and DC go to extra innings for the second straight day. DC won on a 2 run HR in the 13th last night, and squeak by with 2 runs in the 14th to counter a Maui run in the top half of the inning and win 3-2
4/15 – New York pounds out 21 hits to beat Cleveland 12-9
