Sim #16 – No Snow in Our Forecast

None of our games got snowed out this sim (which is good cause we are in June) unlike the real baseball today.

Game Date – June 21st, 2023

Leaders:

PL Kant – Brooklyn by 11 over Miami

PL Hobbes – Brattlesboro by 11.5 over Pittsburgh

SL Hegel – Charleston 2.5 over Chicago

SL Calvin – DC by 7.5 over Cleveland

Wildcards – PL – Miami (+2) and San Diego by 2 games over Tupper Street – SL – Chicago (+10) and Cleveland by 1 game over Rochester

News:

Two Trades – Miami got some ML help in the form of 31 year old LF Jim Leon from Brattlesboro.  In return they get SA CL Brandeis Wendlinger.  The other trade had to be completed in 2 trades becasue you are only allowed to include 5 player from one team in any one trade.  Cleveland sent veteran SS Soseki Takeuchi to San Diego for a haul of players. They received ML Randy ‘Tiny’ Dantzler and 5 minor leaguers (I will let you look up all their names and $100,000 in cash.  Busy dealing in the OEL after the Draft.

Players of the Week – PL – Brattlesboro 2B Antonio Sandoval was 16 for 30 on the week and that was enough to win the award. – SL – Charleston 2B Ken Miller batted .500 with 2 HR and 7 RBIs with 8 runs scored.

Injuries:

Brattlesboro 3B Carlos Avila and SD RP Aubrey Schaal both have a diagnosis pending on injuries they suffered this sim.

Game Action:

(Last Sim) June 15th – There were two extra inning games in which the winning team won by 4 runs.  Brattlesboro scored 2 in the top of the 9th to take the lead only to have Miami score 1 in the bottom of the inning.  No more runs were scored until the 16th when Brattlesboro scored 4 in the top half of the inning to win 7-3.  Brooklyn and Petersburg entered extra innings tied at 3 as well.  Now Brooklyn manager Jeremy Goldman made a tactical error going into this game.  He put in an extra SP, John Bland in the rotation to give Ace Natsu ‘Tiger’ Tanaka one more day to recover from his day-to-day injury.  Well this was a mistake becasue Bland threw 54 pitches the day before so he only made it through 2 innings of this game.  To add insult to injury (literally), the pitcher that Brooklyn brought up just for this game, Victor Garcia was injured after just one batter whom he struck out with an injury of his own.  Over the next 7.2 innings, Brooklyn ran through all of their available pitchers in this game and in the 11th they had to bring in C Reynaldo Hernandez to pitch.  Now you might think that this means that Petersburg was the team that scored the 4 runs to win the game, but this was not that case.  Hernandez pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball while only giving up 2 hits. Brooklyn scored 4 runs in the top of the 12th and gave Hernandez his first (and most likely only) win, 7-3.

(This Sim) June 16th – Charleston’s Jorge Rangel struck out 12 in 8.1 innings in an 8-1 win over NY.

June 17th – Miami’s SP Carl ‘Sheep’ Shearing pitched a CG while only giving up 1 ER with 4 K’s in a 2-1 victory over SD.

June 18th – Charleston scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 7th to break open a 4-4 game and beat Rochester 12-4.

June 19th – Brattlesboro got a gem out of SP Raul Alvarado, 8 IP and 9 K’s is enough for them to get the 2-1 win after they scored 2 runs in the 8th to pull ahead on a 2 run 2 out HR by Mark Rice.

June 20th – Rochester scored 1 run in the 8th and 3 runs in the 9th to pull ahead of NE and win 6-4.

That is the goods on this sim.  I hope that you enjoyed it.  Get those AS ballots in so we can have two all star teams for the mid-summer classic.  Brian will have us Wednesday for five more days.

Pittsburgh’s RF Bryan Williamson was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in a game against Cleveland.  He let the umpire have it for 5 minutes and was suspended for 4 games becasue of it.  Cleveland won the game.

Pittsburgh’s SS John Gray was named the PL player of the week and Charleston’s Garrett Wilson (I wonder who it was that did not offer him arbitration and let him become a FA) won the same award for the SL.

Game Action:

May 21st: Chicago scores 1 run in the bottom of the 9th to send their game with Charleston to extra inning.  Charleston scores one in the top of the 11th, but Chicago scores 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk to win the game 7-6.

May 24th: Maui and Petersburg both managed to score 8 runs in 9 innings and then could not score in the 10th, 11th, 12th, or 13th and int he 14th Maui 2B Marcos de Jesus hit his second HR of the game (5th of the season) to walk it off and give the win to Maui 10-8.

May 25th: NY scored 1 in the first and 2 in the 10th to beat San Diego 3-1.

Injuries:

Maui’s RP Roberto Ramos (another man I am surprised is still in the league) tore a bicep while he was already injured with a strained forearm.  He will be out for 2-3 months

North Jersey’s SP Larry Crabtree strained a hamstring and will be out for 7-8 weeks

SD’s SS Jeff Irby suffered a setback and will be DTD for another week

That is what we have for today so go and download and see for yourself.  Brian will be simming on Wednesday night probably during the Fantasy Baseball draft I have with him that night 🙂  See you guys then.

Leaders –

PL Kant – Tupper Street 5-4 (1 game lead)

PL Hobbes – Brattlesboro 8-1 (3 game lead)

PL Wild Card – New England 5-4 (+1) & Brooklyn 4-5 (1 game lead)

SL Hegel – Charleston 8-1 (2 game lead)

SL Calvin – DC 8-1 (3 game lead)

SL Wild Card – Chicago 6-3 (+1) & Cleveland 5-4 (1 game lead)

Weekly Awards –

PL – Brattlesboro’s C Albert Moran went 9 for 19 with 4 HRs and 9 RBIs

SL – Maui’s Alfonso ‘Nutso’ Rodriguez went 15 for 29 with 2 HRs, 9 RBIs and 7 Runs Scored

Milestone News –

Charleston’s Ken Miller racked up his 2000th hit on the 10th in a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.  He is the 16th batter to rack up that many hits in the OEL.  Not to outdo Miller, but in the next sim or two, Rochester’s Danilo ‘Spike’ Henriquez should become the first batter to reach 3,000 hits and Maui’s Alfonso ‘Nutso’ Rodriguez (yes the SL player of the week) should reach 2,500 hits.

Game Action –

April 6th – Rochester scored 11 runs (yes, 11)in the 8th inning after being down 8-4 to win their game against San Diego.  NY scores 3 runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game just to have Brattlesboro’s Mark Rice hit a 2-out walk-off HR in the bottom half of the inning.

April 7th – Brooklyn’s Natsu ‘Tiger’ Tanaka allowed only 1 ER and 2 Hits and 2 Walks with 9 K’s over 8 Innings only to be out pitched by Chicago’s Alonso Hernandez who did not let up a run over 7 innings to get the win 1-0. Charleston’s ace Jorge Rangel also pitched a gem and did not let up a run over 8 innings to beat Miami 1-0 as well.

April 8th – It took Chicago an extra inning to beat New England 6-5.  In the 10th, with one out it all started when Arthur Bowen reached 1st on wild pitch after striking out.  Two singles later he scored and gave them the walk-off win.

April 9th – DC used 5 pitchers to shutout San Diego and they needed it becasue they only scored 1 run in their win. Brattlesboro went into the 9th down 7-4.  In the top of the 9th, a walk, single, flyout, single (with an error on the right fielder), and another single tied the game.  In the top of the 10th, a solo shot by Roberto Vega gave them the 8-7 victory.

April 10th – A pair of teams scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to take victory from the hands of defeat.  Charleston scored their runs with 2 hits a balk and 3 walks to beat Pittsburgh 4-3.  DC did it the old fashioned way with a walk and a 2-run shot by Logan Pullman to pull out the 4-2 victory.

Another great sim with loads of action and some good stuff happening.  more will happen with Brian on Wednesday along with minor league action starting up so get those lineups set.  See you on Wednesday.
